This chocolate chip mint smoothie has the ultimate creamy texture and tastes like a chocolate chip milkshake! You'd never believe it's naturally sweetened and made with healthier ingredients.

If you're looking for a healthy smoothie that tastes like dessert, you'll love this healthy mint chocolate chip smoothie! It almost tastes like the classic Shamrock Shake we all know and love, but without all the dairy and added sugars. My homemade version is made with wholesome ingredients like spinach, banana and avocado and is loaded with the best minty flavor. If you're a smoothie lover, this mint chip smoothie is definitely worth adding to your list!

If you love this easy mint chocolate smoothie, then you need to check out my other smoothie recipes such as Raspberry Banana Smoothie Bowl, Hailey Bieber Strawberry Smoothie and Favourite Green Smoothie.

    Ingredients

    • Banana - be sure to use frozen banana for this recipe to keep your smoothie thick and creamy.
    • Dates - gooey medjool dates work best for this recipe and add the perfect natural sweetness.
    • Spinach - I recommend using fresh spinach for best results. It's a great way to sneak in some extra veggies!
    • Avocado - adds a lovely texture along with healthy fats.
    • Almond Milk - feel free to substitute with any plant-based milk. Oat milk, soy milk or coconut milk would work great as alternatives.
    • Vanilla Protein - I love the taste of vanilla protein in this recipe for added flavor, but you can also use unflavoured protein powder.
    • Peppermint Extract - this adds the perfect mint flavourto your smoothie. You can also use fresh mint leaves if desired.
    • Chocolate Chips or Cacao Nibs - feel free to use any chocolate chips or cacao nibs you prefer!

    See recipe card for quantities.

    3. Pour into a glass, top with extra chocoolate chips and enjoy!

    Equipment

    • High Speed Blender
    • Smoothie Glass

How To Store This Green Smoothie

This smoothie is best enjoyed immediately after blending. It's great for an easy breakfast, afternoon snack or healthy sweet treat!

    3 Top Tips for Success

    1. Use frozen bananas to maintain a thick smoothie texture. If you don't have frozen bananas on hand you can place fresh bananas in the freezer until frozen.
    2. Add in your chocolate chips at the end, and simply pulse them in a few times to break down. This ensures that they maintain a slight crunchy texture and don't get over blended into your smoothie.
    3. Blend your smoothie on high until smooth, scraping down sides as needed. We don't want any spinach chunks to be left in our smoothie!

    FAQs

Is it better to use fresh or frozen spinach?

You can use either! I love using fresh spinach for this smoothie recipe but you can definitely substitute frozen spinach and the recipe will still turn out great.

Can I customize this smoothie recipe?

Absolutely! Feel free to add in any mix in's or toppings you'd like! To make this smoothie more like a classic St. Patrick's Day Shamrock Shake, add a scoop or mint chip ice cream on top. Other great addition ideas include a tablespoon of almond butter, cocoa powder or flax seeds for an extra nutrient boost.

Do I have to use protein?

If you don't have protein powder, you can substitute with collagen peptides or omit if desired.
