This Nature’s Gatorade is the ultimate clean hydration! It's refreshing, energizing, and made with just five simple ingredients.

When it comes to hydration, most store-bought sports drinks are loaded with added sugars, artificial colors, and things you probably don’t want in your daily routine. That’s why I love making Natures Gatorade—a simple, refreshing electrolyte drink you can blend up at home in just a few minutes.

This homemade gatorade is made with coconut water (a natural source of potassium and electrolytes), fresh lemon juice and a pinch of sea salt to replace the minerals your body needs. The addition of blue spirulina not only gives this drink its gorgeous ocean-blue color but also provides antioxidants for an extra wellness boost.

It’s perfect for rehydrating after a workout, a busy day on the go, or just when you want something more exciting (and more nourishing) than plain water.

If you love this recipe, you need to check out my other drink recipes like Sofia Richie Smoothie Erewhon Copycat, Matcha Smoothie and Healthy Banana Iced Coffee.

    Why You’ll Love Nature's Gatorade

    • Naturally hydrating – powered by coconut water + sea salt.
    • No artificial food dyes – just superfood spirulina for that stunning blue color.
    • Lightly sweet + refreshing – balances tart lemon with a touch of raw honey for the best flavor!
    • Quick to make – 5 minutes and only 5 ingredients.

    Ingredients Needed

    • Coconut water - provides a healthy hydration boost
    • Lemon juice (freshly squeezed)
    • Blue spirulina powder - for that gorgeous blue color similar to the look of blue gatorade
    • Honey (or maple syrup for vegan) - provides a natural sweetener
    • Sea salt - adds natural electrolytes

How to Make this Homemade Electrolyte Drink

    1. Add all ingredients to a blender.
    2. Blend on high until smooth and fully combined.
    3. Pour over ice and enjoy! Store leftovers in a large mason jar in the fridge.

    3 Top Tips For Success

    • Use fresh lemon juice – it makes the flavor brighter and more refreshing than bottled.
    • Blend, don’t stir – whisking or stirring can leave spirulina clumpy; blending ensures it’s smooth and evenly mixed.
    • Chill before serving – this drink tastes best cold, so pour it over ice or keep it in the fridge for at least 30 minutes before sipping.

    Variations

    • Citrus swap: Use lime juice instead of lemon for a tangy twist.
    • Make it cooler: Freeze into ice cubes and pop into your water bottle for on-the-go hydration.
    • Boost it: Add a scoop of unflavored collagen or your favorite electrolyte powder for extra recovery support.

    FAQs

Does blue spirulina have a taste?

Nope! Unlike green spirulina, it’s very neutral—so you’ll mainly taste the lemon and coconut water.

    Can I make it ahead?

Yes! Store in a sealed jar in the fridge for up to 2 days. Shake or stir before drinking.

    What makes it hydrating?

The combination of coconut water, salt, and natural sugar helps restore electrolytes and keep you feeling energized.
