Substitutions
- Rolled Oats - be sure to use certified gluten-free oats for gluten free diets.
- Almond Milk - feel free to substitute with any non-dairy milk such as oat milk or soy milk. If you're not following a plant-based diet, regular milk can also be used.
- Unsweetened Apple Sauce - I use unsweetened applesauce to keep this recipe refined sugar free, but you can use any you have on hand
- Protein Powder - any unflavoured or vanilla protein powder works great!
- Maple Syrup - you can substitute with honey if not following a vegan diet. If you prefer a sweeter baked oatmeal, add an extra 2tbsp to the recipe.
- Fresh Apples - this recipe pairs best with red apples, but you can also try it with green apples if preferred.

How To Store Apple Pie Baked Oatmeal
The best way to store leftovers is in the fridge for 4-5 days. I always slice my baked oatmeal into individual portions and store in an airtight container, so they are ready to go in the mornings. You can also store in the freezer for up to 2 months. To reheat, warm your oatmeal in the toaster oven at 350F until heated through.
3 Top Tips for Success
- Use rolled oats for best texture, NOT quick oats! Quick oats will greatly affect the baking time and results of this recipe.
- Line your baking dish or grease with cooking spray before adding your oat batter. This will make your baked oats easier to remove once they're done cooking
- Spread oat mixture in an even layer in your baking dish to ensure all slices turn out the same thickness.
