Substitutions
- Cacao powder – You can substitute cocoa powder in a 1:1 ratio.
- Walnuts – You can also use raw hazelnuts or almonds if preferred.
- Protein Powder – I use vegan protein powder to keep this recipe plant-based. If you're not following a plant-based diet, you can use whey protein powder or marine collagen instead.
You can also customize these bliss balls by adding in your favorite superfoods or fun coatings. Some of my favourites are cacao nibs, coconut flakes and hemp seeds. For sweeter energy balls, add in 2tbsp maple syrup.
Equipment
- Food processor

- Parchment paper
How To Store Healthy Chocolate Brownie Bliss Balls
Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to one week. This recipe also freezes wonderfully! To freeze, individually wrap the brownie bites and store them in an airtight container. They will last up to 3 months frozen. Simply thaw at room temperature when you're ready to enjoy!
3 Top Tips for Success
- Soak Medjool dates in hot water for about 10 minutes if they aren’t already soft. This helps them blend smoothly with the rest of your ingredients, giving your energy bites the perfect texture with no added sugar.
- If your mixture is too crumbly, add 1-2 tablespoon of water, or more as needed, until you get a rich, brownie batter-like dough.
- Use mini chocolate chips! They hold together beautifully in these energy bites and are just the perfect size to mix in.
