These healthy brownie bliss balls are chewy, decadent, and taste just like raw brownie batter! They're the perfect grab and go snack or guilt-free treat to meal prep for the week.

I always have a batch of these bite-sized bliss balls ready for the week! Not only are they an easy homemade snack, but they're also super customizable with endless flavor combos. Made with just 7 simple ingredients you likely already have in your pantry, these brownie batter bliss balls are both vegan and gluten-free. Perfect for keeping your sweet tooth in check or as a quick pick-me-up during midday slumps!

If you love this recipe, then you need to check out my other bliss ball variations such as Chunky Monkey Energy Balls, Peanut Butter Cookie Dough and Ferrero Rocher Bliss Balls.

    Ingredients

    • dates (soaked if not soft)
    • walnuts
    • cacao powder
    • natural vanilla extract
    • vanilla protein
    • salt
    • chocolate chips

    See recipe card for quantities.

    Instructions

    1. Add all ingredients, except the chocolate chips, to a food processor and blend until a doughy texture forms.
    2. Add 1-2 tablespoon of warm water if needed to blend.
    3. Form into approximately 10 balls and transfer to a lined baking sheet. Place in the freezer for 15 minutes to firm up, then enjoy!

    Notes:

    • Store in the fridge or freezer for the best texture.
    • Soak dates in hot water for 10 minutes if they are not soft.

    Substitutions

    1. Cacao powder – You can substitute cocoa powder in a 1:1 ratio.
    2. Walnuts – You can also use raw hazelnuts or almonds if preferred.
    3. Protein Powder – I use vegan protein powder to keep this recipe plant-based. If you're not following a plant-based diet, you can use whey protein powder or marine collagen instead.

You can also customize these bliss balls by adding in your favorite superfoods or fun coatings. Some of my favourites are cacao nibs, coconut flakes and hemp seeds. For sweeter energy balls, add in 2tbsp maple syrup.

    Equipment

    • Food processor
    • Baking sheet
    • Parchment paper

How To Store Healthy Chocolate Brownie Bliss Balls

Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to one week. This recipe also freezes wonderfully! To freeze, individually wrap the brownie bites and store them in an airtight container. They will last up to 3 months frozen. Simply thaw at room temperature when you're ready to enjoy!

    3 Top Tips for Success

    1. Soak Medjool dates in hot water for about 10 minutes if they aren’t already soft. This helps them blend smoothly with the rest of your ingredients, giving your energy bites the perfect texture with no added sugar.
    2. If your mixture is too crumbly, add 1-2 tablespoon of water, or more as needed, until you get a rich, brownie batter-like dough.
    3. Use mini chocolate chips! They hold together beautifully in these energy bites and are just the perfect size to mix in.
    What are bliss balls?

Bliss balls are healthy treats made from wholesome ingredients like nuts, dates, and cacao, shaped into little bites. These brownie balls are perfect for satisfying cravings while keeping things nutritious and delicious.

What if I don’t have protein powder?

If you don’t have protein powder, you can replace it with collagen or oat flour.

    Are energy balls vegan?

Yes, these energy balls are completely vegan. They contain plant-based ingredients like dates, nuts, and cacao, making them nutritious little bites without any animal products.
